Elhunyt február 1-én Mailáth István, a montreáli Magyar Krónika alapítója és kiadója, a helyi magyar közösség aktív tagja. Mailáth István (Stephan Mailath) Magyarországon született nemesi családba. Szülőföldjét 1947-ben hagyta el és 1950-ben érkezett Kanadába. A BMW-nél épített karriert és ott dolgozott évtizedeken keresztül. Amikor 1999-ben nyugdíjba ment, megalapította feleségével – Máriával – a Magyar Krónika című nyomtatott kéthetilapot. A lap elsősorban a helyi magyar közösség eseményeiről nyújtott beszámolókat, képes krónikákat, illetve egyéb kulturális és társadalmi jellegű cikkeket. A lap online változata mai napig létezik és Mailáth István az utóbbi években is aktív szerepet vállalt annak kiadásában.

Mailáth Istvánt gyászolja 44 év házasság után felesége Mária, fia Steve, unókái – Michaela és Hanna – valamint tág baráti köre.

Stephan Mailath (Pityu)
October 7, 1930 – February 1, 2021

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Count Stephan (Pityu) Mailath, after a recent illness. He leaves behind in deep sorrow, his loving wife Maria of 44 years, his son Steve, his granddaughters Michaela and Hanna, near and distant relatives here and abroad, along with his many, many devoted and loyal friends.

Having had to flee his beloved and native Hungary in 1947, Stephan, being a descendent of a prominent and noble family, which over the centuries contributed richly to Hungary’s cultural and political development, came to Canada in 1950, after having spent time in various West European countries.
Once in Montreal and as a car buff, he found his niche at BMW Automobile Co. where he chose a sales career and where he rapidly became an institution.

In 1999, after his retirement, along with Maria , he started and published The Hungarian Chronicle, (Magyar Kronika), and organized numerous cultural events to further nurture cultural ties within the local Hungarian communities.

Until very recently, he was actively participating in the publishing the internet version of the Kronika.
Pityu will long be remembered for his positive outlook on life and for his contagious smile.
The celebration of his life will be held and published at a later date.
