Canadian Hungarian Democratic Charter congratulates Senator Cardin for speaking out on racism in Hungary
András Göllner, Founder and International Spokesperson of the Montreal-based Canadian Hungarian Democratic Charter issued a congratulatory letter to U.S. Senator and Co-Chair of the U.S. Helsinki Commission Ben Cardin. The full text of Dr. Göllner’s letter and Senator Cardin’s statement are published below.

Dear Senator Cardin:
In my capacity as Founder and International Spokesperson of the Canadian Hungarian Democratic Charter, I would like to thank and congratulate you personally on your recent Congressional statement on Hungary.
You have done the right and honourable thing by speaking up and calling attention to the real source of the problem that is brewing within the territory of one of the member states of the North Atlantic family of nations. Instead of asking the Hungarian PM, Viktor Orbán to issue another meaningless and pious declaration condemning his once coveted protégé, Jobbik leader Gábor Vona, instead of offering the Hungarian government another propaganda opportunity to falsely portray itself as a defender of civil rights, you zeroed in on those who are ultimately to blame for the escalation of the tragedy unfolding in Hungary today and which threatens to spread far beyond the borders of that country, even as far as North America.
FIDESZ and Orbán’s government has been busy for years restoring to respectability the political culture that reigned supreme under the rule of Hitler’s political ally, Admiral Horthy in Hungary. That political culture has very little in common with the political culture of those nations that are members of the North Atlantic family of nations. One of Orbán’s top political adviser, Imre Kerényi, who works in the Prime Minister’s Office as I write these words, is publicly on record for uttering the following words: “I can reassure all, pretty soon, there will be a little mound where today, the White House stands in Washington, and on it, goats will be grazing peacefully” As he campaigned on behalf of Mr Orbán in the 2006 national elections, Kerényi declared publicly, that the USA is the world’s most despicable country, and even Hungary’s former overlords, the Russians are more likeable than the USA. In the same speech, he argued that Hungary’s political role model should be Iran, and the global Muslim resistance movement that is fighting the Americans in Iraq and elsewhere.
One of Orban’s good chums, a FIDESZ founder and a government decorated organizer of the pro-government “Peace” parades, Zsolt Bayer is on public record with the following Anti-Semitic slur: ” the mere existence of Jewish journalists in Budapest is grounds enough for our anti-Semitism”. On December 20, 2012, one of Orbán’s minister’s has just given another decoration to a man, András Bencsik, who is one of the founders of the Hungarian Guard and who compared Imre Kertész’s Nobel prize to a a piece of excrement in his weekly, the Demokrata. This is the magazine, that Orbán has often publicly recommended his compatriots to turn to for enlightenment. This is the magazine where all of the top FIDESZ leaders are showcased regularly, it is the weekly, that celebrates each year the Hungarian troops that fought against the Allies on the side of the Nazis. With friends like this, who needs enemies ?
Senator Cardin ! You are right in taking your cues not from Orbán’s propaganda words but from his political actions. We applaud you for your courage and unfailing support for Hungary’s democrats and civil-libertarians.

The full text of Senator Ben Cardin’s (D-Maryland) statement on racism and anti-Semitism in Hungary on the floor of the U.S. Senate, on December 20th, 2012:
Mr. President, as the Senate chair of the Helsinki Commission, I have a longstanding interest in Central Europe. For many years the Helsinki Commission was one of the loudest and clearest voices to speak on behalf of those oppressed by communism and to call for democracy, human rights, and freedom from Soviet oppression. It has been a great triumph and joy to see the peoples of this region free from dictatorship.
Over the past two decades I have been profoundly heartened as newly freed countries of Central Europe have joined the United States and NATO and have become our partners in advocating for human rights and democracy around the globe. Leadership on those issues may be especially important now as some countries in the Middle East undertake transition, the outcome of which is far from certain. Even in Europe, in the western Balkans, there is a crying need for exemplary leadership, not backsliding.
Americans know from our own history that maintaining democracy and promoting human rights are never jobs that are finished. As my friend and former colleague Tom Lantos said, „The veneer of civilization is paper thin. We are its guardians, and we can never rest.”
For some time I have been concerned about the trajectory of developments in Hungary, where the scope and nature of systemic changes introduced after April 2010 have been the focus of considerable international attention.
At the end of November, Hungary was back in the headlines when Marton Gyongyosi, a member of the notorious extremist party Jobbik and also vice chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, suggested that Hungarian Jews are a threat to Hungary’s national security and those in government and Parliament should be registered. The ink was barely dry on letters protesting those comments when another Hungarian member of Parliament, Balazs Lenhardt, participated in a public demonstration last week where he burned an Israeli flag.
The fact is that these are only the latest extremist scandals to erupt in Budapest over the course of this year. In April, for example, just before Passover, a Jobbik MP gave a speech in Parliament weaving together subtle anti-Roma propaganda with overt anti-Semitism blood libel. After that, Jobbik was in the news when it was reported that one of its members in Parliament had requested and received certification from a DNA testing company that his or her blood was free of Jewish or Romani ancestry.
At issue in the face of these anti-Semitic and racist phenomena is the sufficiency of the Hungarian Government’s response and its role in ensuring respect for human rights and the rule of law. And the government’s response has been, to say the least, wanting.
First, it has been a hallmark of this government to focus on blood identity through the extension of Hungarian citizenship on a purely ethnic basis. The same Hungarian officials have played fast and loose with questions relating to its wartime responsibilities, prompting the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to issue a public statement of concern regarding the rehabilitation of fascist ideologues and political leaders from World War II.
I am perhaps most alarmed by the government’s failure to stand against the organized threats from Jobbik. For example, in late August a mob estimated at 1,000 people terrorized a Roma neighborhood in Devecser, taunting the Romani families to come out and face the crowd. There were reportedly three members of Parliament from the Jobbik party participating in that mob, and some people were filmed throwing bricks or stones at the Romani homes. The failure to investigate, let alone condemn such acts of intimidation, makes Prime Minister Orban’s recent pledge to protect „his compatriots” ring hollow.
Of course, all this takes place in the context of fundamental questions about democracy itself in Hungary.
What are we to make of democracy in Hungary when more than 360 religious organizations are stripped of their registration overnight and when all faiths must now depend on the politicized decision-making of the Parliament to receive the rights that come with registration?
What are we to make of the fact that even after the European Commission and Hungary’s own Constitutional Court have ruled against the mass dismissal of judges in Hungary’s court-packing scheme, there is still no remedy for any of the dismissed judges?
What is the status of media freedom in Hungary, let alone the fight against anti-Semitism, if a journalist who writes about anti-Semitism faces possible sanction before the courts for doing so?
What are we to make of Hungary’s new election framework, which includes many troubling provisions, including a prohibition on campaign ads on commercial radio and TV, onerous new voter registration provisions, and limits on local election committees, which oversee elections?
I find it hard to imagine that Jews, Roma, and other minorities will be safe if freedom of the media and religion, the rule of law, the independence of the Judiciary, and the checks and balances essential for democracy are not also safeguarded. With that in mind, I will continue to follow the overall trends in Hungary and the implications for the region as a whole.

Göllner András, ezzel a levéllel biztos útat választott a pokolba!
T.i. annyi rágalmazást és hazugságot gyüjtött össze a szerencsétlen kormányra,hogy hiszek abban, hogy megbünhődik érte. Csak KÉT esetet ragadok ki a leveléből, Bencsik alapítótta a Magyar Gárdát és Vóna Gábor védence volt a Fidesznek.
Bencsik Andrást személyileg nem kedvele, de ami nem igaz az már fáj. A Jobbik alapította, amihez Bencsiknek semmi köze nem volt.
Vóna Gábor meg a legerősebb elenzékije volt MINDIG Orbánnak és a mai kormánynak.
Persze van még néhány hazugság ezen kivül,pl. Horthy kormány „visszahozása”, ami nevetséges anakronizmus.
Ami meg a demokrata senátort illeti, egészen biztos vagyok abban, hogy ki informálta ilyen kiválóan. Ennyi.

Figyelő, ezzel a hozzászólással biztos utat (és nem útat) választott arra, hogy nevetségessé tegye magát.
Vona Gábor „ellenzékisége” olyan erős, hogy az önkormányzati képviselőtestületek közül számtalanban együttműködik a Jobbik a Fidesszel.
Ne zavarja meg Rogán vagy Fónagy felszólalása – ezek nem a Fidesz főáramát jelentik. A főáram ott van vidéken, ahol fideszes és jobbikos versenyt zsidózik, és még csak nagyon be sem kell rúgniuk, hogy felfedezzék egymásban a testvért. Gyümölcsöző együttműködésük legutóbbi terméke a Szegedi Szabadtéri Játékok mindenki által elismert vezetőjének leváltása, mert kellett valami havernak a poszt. Az antiszemita írók bevétele a tantervbe szintén nem a Fidesz és a Jobbik éles szembenállását mutatja. Úgy is mondhatnám: az átlag fideszes tulajdonképpen szégyenlős jobbikos. Míg a jobbikos bumfordi, Fradi B közép szinten zsidózik, az átlag fideszes ezt nem meri így tenni, de ugyanezt gondolja.
A Horthy-kormányt nem lehet visszahozni, mert az a 40-es években szerencsére kimúlt. De a Horthy-idők szelleme, a tekintélyuralom, a társadalom alsóbb rétegeinek lenézése, a társadalmi mobilitás befagyasztása, a trianonozás, az antiszemita közbeszéd, az egyeduralmi törekvések, az ellenzék ezerféle módon történő korlátozása, a trükközések a választási törvénnyel, az émelyítő kereszténykedés, a jobboldali kormányzás történelmi jogokból eredeztetése ez mind jelen van.
És a társadalmi alrendszerek államosítása, majd az állam alárendelése egyetlen párt hatalmi törekvéseinek még ennél is súlyosabbról szólnak: a puha diktatúráról, ami két év alatt szépen, módszeresen, lépésről-lépésre visszalopakodott Magyarországra. Lehet újrakezdeni a rendszerváltást, kedves Figyelő!

És még egy dolog: a Kongresszus képviselőit alapvetően az USA budapesti követsége informálja. Ha netán arra gondolt, hogy valami sunyi ballib újságíró szövegeit visszhangozza Mr. Cardin, akkor kicsit hülyének és butának gondolja.
Sokkal egyszerűbb a megoldás, nincs itt semmiféle összeesküvési terv az ártatlan Magyarország ellen. Van a nyugati szövetségnek pár alapelve, amit a szövetség tagjának be KELL tartania. És Mr. Cardin ránézett Magyarországra és azt látta, hogy a kormánynak ezek az elvek semmit nem jelentenek.
Nem tudom, hallotta-e az ország második – sokak szerint első – legfontosabb emberének, Kövér Lászlónak a diáktüntetések és Sólyom László megszólalása kapcsán tett reagálását. Érdemes meghallgatni: úgy süt belőle a diktatórikus gondolkodás, hogy Rákosi elvtárs forog a sírjában örömében.

Ennél találóbb verssort nem írtak a Fidesz mai vezetőiről.
Hát ezt érzi Mr. Cardin pontosan.

Kedves Figyelő. Nem tudja, hogy az angyalok a szövetségeseim és ha pokolba kíván engem, azzal csak magát hozza nehéz helyzetbe az ünnepek alatt ?
A FIGYELŐ szerint, Cardin szenátorhoz írt levelem teli hazugságokkal, a két legnagyobb az volt, hogy azt hazudtam Bencsik Andrásról hogy a fasiszta, fajgyűlölő Magyar Gárda alapítója. A másik pedig az, hogy a FIDESZ , valaha is a fasiszta, anti-demokratikus fajgyigyűlöletet keltő Vona Gábor védence lett volna.

A Magyar Gárdát, 2007 Júniusában alapították. A bejegyzési okiraton, a Gárda bejelentésének sajtótájékoztatóján nyílvánosan szerepelt Bencsik András mint alapító tag. Takács Zsuzsa, Bencsik élettársa tervezte a Magyar Gárda híres oroszlános egyenruháját. Ha nem hiszi, klikkeljen az alábbi linkre, ott látni fog egy nagyon szép képet is amely az alapítás alkalmával készült. Szépen ott virít Bencsik, Vona Gábor jobbján.

Bencsik és Orbán kapcsolatához még egy lábjegyzetet is csatolnék: „Orbán Viktor és Bencsik András kapcsolata visszanyúlik abba a korszakba, amikor a Magyar Demokrata szerkesztősége még a Király utcában, majd a Sas utcában volt, s a Fidesz akkoriban nem rendelkezett olyan jó sajtóval, mint manapság. Viktornak jól jött Bencsik fölajánlkozása, amely tüsténkedést később a Fidesz azzal is meghálálta, hogy jutányosan, mindössze egy forintért Bencsik főszerkesztő Dávid nevű fiának nevére írták azt az Andrássy út eleji, rendkívül értékes ingatlant, ahol a Magyar Demokrata szerkesztősége és Bencsik egyéb üzleti vállalkozásai is működnek.”
Ami a FIDESZ védenckedését illeti Vona Gábor felett, íme a bizonyítékok. Vona Gábor a FIDESZ ifjúsági tagozatának, a FIDELITAS-nak volt az elnöke, onnan került Orbán Viktor és Martonyi Jánossal együtt a Szövetség a Nemzetért polgári kör vezetőségébe. Amikor a magyar sajtó már réges régen tele volt Vona szélsőséges nézeteivel, Orbán rendszeresen ki állt mellette és rendes, tisztességes magyar emberként aposztrofálta. Magyarán, védence volt a fasiszta Vona Gábornak. A FIDESZ-nek a Jobbik vezérével az a baja, hogy hátat fordított a meleg fészeknek amelyben neveltetett, és kiröppentett a FIDESZ-ből kb 700,000 korábban Orbánhoz hűséges fasisztát. 2007-ben Vona Gábor már mint a Magyar Gárda alapítója így emlékezett vissza a polgári körökre: „A remény körei voltak ezek, de rövid virágzás után a Fidesz beépítette magába a többségüket, és ezzel a magukra maradt polgári körök ellaposodtak. (…) Ezt kívánja a Magyar Gárda mozgalma is folytatni, azt kívánjuk befejezni, amit Lakitelek, a Magyar Út Körök és a polgári körök elkezdtek, de be nem fejeztek.”

Who really are these people, criticising Hungary sitting on a high horse? Their forefathers went to the continent now called America, killed the Red Skinned indigenous population mistakenly named Indians, by every means at their disposal including giving them as presents small pox infested blankets and clothing. And after having killed millions of the Red Skinned people imported Black Skinned people from the Continent of Africa as slave labourers, to work on the Land they stole from the Red Skinned people.
In 1945 after the defeat of Germany General; later President Eisenhower, (1952-1960) changed the status of the Prisoners of War (POW) to Disarmed Enemy Forces (DEF) so that they would not have to treat the captured Germans according to the Genève Conventions which they also signed and deliberately starved over a million Germans to death.
And even today in 2013 still maintain camps in other countries where the United States Laws don’t apply and prisoners can be tortured.

Perhaps Mr. Ben Cardin should study the political structure and history of USA, before criticizing others (Mr. Levay an excellent start of your answer that is why I borrowed and extended it).
During this activity do not avoid evaluating the activity of Ku Klux Klan (really racist organization).
It would be also very useful spend a short time to the holocaust of the North-American Indians. I think it was the biggest and longest holocaust on the world, with participating of the silent complicity of Europe. What really shameful is, this procedure has existed since the founding the independent United States (yet between the two World War too).
